15 December - a new kind of selfie

A Christmas selfie -
there was only this one casualty at
today's grand Xmas tree decoration event

All the baubles and ornaments -
well, most of them anyway ...

- And what the dining table looks like now.
It's likely to stay this way for a couple of days :-)

@ N ~ it's the most wonderful time of the year.  If you have a colour printer, you can just print out some of my blog pictures and use them as Xmas decorations ;-)

I bought my tree yesterday.  Originally, I've always thought that the tree shouldn't go up until a few days before Christmas. But the first time A's mum came from Iran to spend Christmas with us, I put it up mid-December so she could thoroughly enjoy it - - and then I fell so much in love with it myself that I've now given up my past dogma and try to get the tree in around 10 days before, give or take.

Last year was the first Christmas in my little old house, and the first time I was buying my own tree around here.  I found a small local plantation, and as it turned out, one of the guys selling trees was someone I had a brief affair with when I was around 17.  I went back there again this year - 1, because their trees are actually really nice, and 2, because he cuts me a deal "since we know each other somewhat, wink wink" :-)   This year, I got an extra tree thrown in for free, because it's a tiny one and the deer had been nibbling it so they couldn't really sell it.  So, bonus, I have a tree out on the patio as well.  Just goes to show that old mistakes affairs sometimes do pay off after all.

And today I got out the ginormous boxes with baubles and ornaments ... Aaaah :-)  It takes most of the day, with plenty of breaks in between.  But you'll have to wait for pictures of the finished tree (cliff-hanger)

I'm also almost done with the gingerbread house. Finally. It's been a long time in the making this year but with a bit of luck it hasn't gone so soft that it will collapse under the weight of the roof (I think I should have baked it a couple of minutes more than I did - alas, too late for that now).

And now, I'm off to buy a present + find myself some coloured paper so I can make some Christmas hearts for the guerilla Xmas decorations for the train station. Yay me !
