My Christmas Guest

We have a little Christmas guest this year. His name is Hampus and he is staying with us while his Mum & Dad are visiting relatives Down Under.

The first couple of days he was a bit quiet, mostly staying in his little house and running away every time we tried to say hello. But now he has settled in nicely, enjoys a good cuddle, and every morning he joins Felix (my pwn guinea pig) in a special "where-is-our-breakfast-hello-we're-starving-here" performance.  However, although they're completely in sync on the feeding schedule (not often enough, can we have some more please?), they don't see eye to eye on most other things - such as who is the Alpha Male - so when they are in the "play pen" they bicker quite a lot. They're separated by bars and sit on either side like two little prisoners, trying to reach each other's food and perhaps get a sniff of guinea pig bum as well (apparently, not only dogs and Ally McBeal are into the bum sniffing thing, piggies do it too. I'm pleased to report there are no signs of homosexuality though - while I don't mind it in humans, I'm not particularly fond of gay guinea pigs. Or rabbits. Boyfriend's ex-wife had a bunny rabbit and a guinea pig, both males, and they were gay. Rather disturbing, actually, as the rabbit was a bit bigger than the guinea pig.  When his ex and the kids were looking after my piggies, I was always afraid the gay piggy would shout out to mine, "hey, look here, this is really good fun, you should try this" :-)  But Hampus and Felix are straight. Like two little monks)

Ahem. Now for something completely different. Meet our little guest:

Posing for a Christmas card

Quite the little model. I read somewhere that his dashing good looks
are his cross to bear :-)

Sniffing the Christmas tree (not, may I add, eating it)

Applying for position of Alpha Male. And being rejected by
my piggy Felix (older and quite a bit bigger)

Tired of posing for pictures and off to explore giant teddy bears

Merry Christmas A&C! Your piggy is very happy here, but also looking very much forward to seeing you again when you come home!

I hate to see us lose your input but I wonder if simply publishing articles with no comments enabled and having a members-only forum wouldn't be a good compromise. There's something about the immediacy of the response form and the lack of accountability available from anonymity (oh, hypocritical me) that seems to encourage people's awfulness.
